Handheld GPS

A handheld GPS is a portable, easy-to-use device that uses GPS technology. These devices were unveiled in the late 1990s. They can provide navigation assistance as well as land-survey data. Certain models are also capable of providing some information, both historical and current, on landmarks such as national parks.

Handheld GPS devices are often used to help complete practical navigation tasks, much as any GPS unit. However, one of their most popular uses is as a recreational tool. These devices can be invaluable for hikers and explorers who want to ensure they don’t get lost. Along those same lines, outdoors enthusiasts often use these devices to save the coordinates of a certain location for future reference. Additionally, some use their handheld systems to play a game called “geocaching,” which is essentially an outdoor treasure hunt.

These devices are, in addition to being portable, designed to be user-friendly. Since this technology was first made available, it has grown in popularity. This has led to many cell phone companies offering GPS technology in their new phones. As a result, handheld GPS devices are more common than ever before.
