GPS Receiver
GPS receivers calculate position by timing the signals sent by the GPS satellites above Earth. These messages are continually transmuted from the satellite and they include the precise orbital information, the time the message was sent, and the general, rough orbits of all GPS satellites.
GPS receivers available to the public come in a number of forms, in varying shapes, sizes and with different applications.
Some GPS receivers work better than others. Some of the less expensive, smaller GPS receivers will have a hard time pinpointing your signal if you are in a heavily wooded area, for example. All the same, these handheld GPS tools can be invaluable for explorers and hikers to prevent getting lost.
